Making sustainable changes

At The Cambridge, we’re committed to supporting our members and the generations to come, to create a greener planet for us all.

When thinking of ‘greener living’, most people will consider buying an electric car, recycling more, reduce their plastic  usage or choose to buy from sustainable brands. However, there are lots of things we can do at home to help save energy and in turn support a more sustainable society. And as energy-efficient homes often have lower energy bills, it could help save you some pennies too.

Along with switching off your appliances at the walls and replacing standard light bulbs with energy efficient LED ones, they are lots of other ways that you can help reduce waste, save money and reduce your carbon footprint. You can find more ways to make sustainable changes at home in the link below.

Improving your homes energy rating

Improving your property’s Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) rating is a fantastic way to not only reduce its impact on the environment, but to save money too. EPCs give a rating from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient) which are valid for 10 years and help to indicate how costly it is to heat and light your property.

Your EPC will also include tips on how you can improve your homes efficiency. If you'd like to know more about EPCs and ways to improve your property's energy efficiency click the link below.

Our sustainability journey

Last year we purchased a house in Cambridge, with the goal of retrofitting it to improve its environmental credentials. How best to help the planet can be a confusing task, and we want this to be a learning exercise for us all. So we intend to work with local, and in some cases national, businesses to make the house more environmentally sustainable and cheaper to run, but importantly also to do so in a way which is both affordable and in sympathy with local architecture.

We’ll be documenting the whole process, hopefully sharing a great success story but also being open about the inevitable missteps we might make along the way, hoping that everyone can learn from the journey. So keep an eye on our website and social media to find out more!
