The easy way to pay into your savings account

High street or sofa, cash or BACs? The various paying in options at The Cambridge

The Cambridge is committed to making it convenient for you to pay money into your accounts so you can manage your finances with ease, whether you have a branch-based savings account or an online savings account. See two sections below: 1 is for branch-based savers; 2 is for online savers.

1. Branch savings account payments made easy

You can pay in cash and cheques or make debit card payments at any of our local branches or over the telephone. You can also make electronic transfers from external bank accounts via BACS, CHAPS or Faster Payment.

Payments made by electronic transfer will be added to the balance and earn interest straight away.

Please refer to your account terms and conditions before making a payment to make sure that it's possible. Not all accounts can receive payments or there may be restrictions.

Debit Cards

We accept payments by most major debit cards.

Payments from overseas

You can transfer money by telegraphic transfer (SWIFT) from overseas. To organise this transfer, the organisation sending the payment will need to quote the following details

SWIFT Code: BARCGB22

Bank account name: Cambridge Building Society

IBAN: GB27BARC20175540338346

Reference: Your 10 digit Cambridge account number

Amount: The actual amount to be sent, stating currency

Cheque Payments

When paying money into your account by cheque please ensure that the cheque payee includes either your full name or 10 digit Cambridge Building Society account number.

If you pay money into your account by cheque, the payment will be put through a clearing process. The central clearing cycle for cheques is three working days. We will then require one further day for your payment to reach our bank account. We therefore require four working days before cheques can be withdrawn. As the timescale for the cheque clearing process can be longer than this, you can only be certain the money is yours after 8 working days have passed.

Cheques paid into your account will be added to the balance and start to earn interest straight away.

Please note that Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays are not classed as working days in the central clearing cycle.

2. If you have an online savings account

The following information is relevant only for our customers who have online savings accounts. For our branch based accounts please read the information above ‘Branch savings account payments made easy’.

You can pay money into your online savings account using your debit card or via electronic transfer such as BACS, CHAPS or Faster Payment.

Payments made by electronic transfer will be credited to your account on the day the Society receives them and will start to earn interest straight away.

Please refer to your account terms and conditions before making a payment to make sure that it's possible. Not all accounts can receive payments or there may be restrictions.

We accept payments by most major debit cards.
