We’ve been informed by The Estate Planning Group that The Will Writing Company, which is part of the Group, has ceased trading.

Deedbank, which holds customer Wills continues to trade.

Below you’ll find some information to help with your questions.  We will update this page as we receive further information.


  1. What has happened to The Will Writing Company?

The Will Writing Company, which is part of Estate Planning Group, has ceased trading. Deed Bank, which holds customer wills and other documents, continues to trade.

If you have a Will, or Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA), or indeed any other work in progress then The Will Writing Company can’t now complete it, amend it or later change it in any way, and you should seek advice from other suitably experienced / qualified estate planning practitioners.


  1. What is The Cambridge doing about the situation?

We are doing everything we can to support our customers who have been affected.  Unfortunately it is a complex situation and for legal reasons The Will Writing Company have been unable to provide much information about the future yet.

We will continue to support customers to get the answers they need from The Will Writing Company and decide whether it is appropriate for us to write to customers ourselves when the situation becomes clearer.


  1. Is The Will Writing Company contacting existing customers?

We have not had this confirmed, but understand that this is their intention once the future of the company is settled.


  1. I’m currently paying a monthly subscription to The WWC, which included storage and amendments to my existing will. Is this still valid?

We understand that progress is being made to provide ongoing support with another regulated provider, so you may wish to continue with your subscription.  However, if your need is urgent or time critical we suggest cancelling your subscription and seek alternative provision.


  1. The Will Writing Company currently holds my Will, how can I retrieve this?

You can arrange the return of your Will by contacting the storage company, DeedBank. We recommend emailing them using  or telephoning them on 0330 555 7555 between the hours of 10am and 4pm (Monday to Friday).

There will be a charge made for the retrieval of documents in line with the DeedBank storage cost structure. These costs will vary by document and will need to be paid direct to the storage company.


  1. What is happening with my power of attorney?  

If your Power of Attorney is completed and has been sent to the Office of Public Guardian for registration, please note that it can take 10-12 weeks for the Office of Public Guardian to process the registration. Once complete, the Office of the Public Guardian will write to customers and confirm that the document has been registered.

  1. How do I contact The Will Writing Company?

Please note that they are experiencing a high number of enquiries at the moment so they may not be able to answer your query immediately.  We do not recommend sending any communication by post at the current time.


  1. How do I make a complaint?

If you wish to make a complaint against The Will Writing Company, you may wish to refer it to the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority (SRA) Compensation Fund, who can sometimes help an individual where an SRA regulated firm fails to finish work for which they have been paid. 

If your payment to The Will Writing Company was made by credit card, you may wish to refer your complaint to your credit card provider who may be able to refund the amount if you have not received what you paid for.
