Finance Assistant


About the role

As a Finance Assistant at The Cambridge you’ll have an amazing opportunity to play a key role within the operational side of the Finance Team.

You’ll be based within a strong finance team, ensuring financial transactions of the Society are accounted for accurately and by allocated timescales, through prompt reconciliations, processing and administration.

You’ll provide a first-class service to internal and external customer by delivering their requirements to agreed timescales through an organised and well-managed approach to the tasks.

Salary and working hours

Salary £20,000 per annum plus qualification opportunities

Monday to Friday 8:45am - 5:00pm (36.25 hours per week)

What you’ll be doing day-to-day

You’ll be assisting and completing as a “team” the following daily tasks using a variety of systems:

Use the Society’s Purchase Ledger system to process invoices daily, schedule and complete weekly payment runs and setting-up new suppliers

Use of the Society’s Treasury systems to complete daily back office duties. Including providing daily figures, checking exposures, producing confirmations, sending and reconciliation funds.

Complete daily control reconciliations; bank, cheque, savings and lending, card payments, cash, manage suspense accounts, expenses, reviewing/correcting outstanding entries and processing unpaid cheques.

Process daily customer advances and CHAPS payments.

The daily monitoring of key system controls, investigating and correcting differences as appropriate with relevant documentation in place.

Process daily branch/store cash orders.

Create, maintain and enhance working relationships with key contacts using Finance knowledge to provide support to other areas of the Society

You will be someone with

A high level of attention to detail

Good Microsoft knowledge

The ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships

Good communication skills, written and verbal

The ability to plan and prioritise work to meet individual and department deadlines

Able to successfully work as part of a team and individually

Have an analytical approach to problem solving

A desire to work towards or willing to start an Accounting/Finance qualification
