Cash for the Community 2017 – the results
The 16 worthy beneficiaries of this year’s Cash for the Community campaign were celebrated at a special event where it was announced how much of the £12,000 pot each would receive.
We once again teamed up with Cambridge News to run the campaign which sees the amount of money donated to each group determined by the number of tokens collected from the paper.
This year we upped the amount of money available from £10,000 to £12,000 to reflect the popularity of the campaign and increase the amount of support we can give to the worthy organisations involved.
Chief Operating Officer Andy Lucas compered the celebration event at Hotel Felix in Cambridge on Wednesday 6th September.
Each organisation received the following amounts:
Huntingdon Peterborough Cambridge MS Therapy Centre £2,162
Cambridge Hard of Hearing Club £1,476
Bottisham Swimming Club £1,119
Cambridge Breathe Easy Group £1,115
Arthur Rank Hospice Charity £1,065
Motor Neurone Disease Association Cambridgeshire Branch £862
Cambridge Cruse Bereavement Care £680
Little Bundles £631
Home-Start Cambridgeshire £534
Camms Meals on Wheels £492
Little Miracles £438
Action for Children £394
Open Lunch Café £392
Cambridge Breastfeeding Alliance £370
Burwell Day Centre £250
Centre 33 £250
The total amount shared adds up to more than £12,000 as we decided each group should receive at least £250.
Chief Executive Stephen Mitcham presented the cheques alongside Cambridge News editor David Bartlett.
Stephen said: “Cash for the Community is a lovely way for us to help those groups who make a real difference to their community. Our teams always enjoy reading through the many entries we get and finding out about the amazing work going on to support so many different people or causes.
“We’re always humbled by the number of worthy groups there are which help such a diverse group from babes in arms to the elderly and everything in between. It’s an honour to be able to support them in this way.”
