Paying money in for branch based savers
The following information is relevant to our branch based savings accounts. For information on our online accounts please see our paying money in for online savers page.
Paying money in
You can pay in cash and cheques, make debit card payments at any of our local branches or over the telephone and make electronic transfers from external bank accounts via BACS, CHAPS or Faster Payments. Please refer to your account terms and conditions before making a payment to make sure that it's possible. Payments made by electronic transfer will be credited to your account on the day the Society receives them and will start to earn interest straight away.
Debit Cards
We accept payments from the following debit cards:
- Visa
- Visa Electron
- Maestro
- Solo
- V Pay
BACS, CHAPS or Faster Payments account details
If you wish to have money paid into your account by electronic transfer you or the payer will need to send the payment to:
Bank: Barclays Bank Plc, 9-11 St Andrews Street, Cambridge CB2 3AA
Sort Code: 20-17-22
Account Number: 40338346
You must also ensure that your name and savings account number are quoted as a reference. If your name and savings account number are not quoted, or are quoted incorrectly, the payment may be returned.
If you do not have an online current account and you wish to save on a regular basis, we can help you set up a 'standing order' from your bank account to your savings account with The Cambridge. Standing order forms are available from any of our branches or by calling us on 0845 601 3344.
Overseas transfers account details
You can transfer money by telegraphic transfer (SWIFT) from overseas. To organise this transfer, the organisation sending the payment will need to quote the following details.
SWIFT Code: BARCGB22
Bank account name: Cambridge Building Society
IBAN: GB30BARC20172240338346
Reference: Your 10 digit Cambridge account number
Amount: The actual amount to be sent, stating currency
Cheque clearance
If you pay money into your account by cheque, the payment will be put through a clearing process. The central clearing cycle for cheques is three working days. We will then require one further day for your payment to reach our bank account. We therefore require four working days before cheques can be withdrawn. As the timescale for the cheque clearing process can be longer than this, you can only be certain the money is yours after 8 working days have passed.
Cheques paid into your account will be added to the balance and start to earn interest straight away.
Please note that Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays are not classed as working days in the central clearing cycle.
