Cambridge Building Society has always been proud of its extensive network across the city and surrounding areas - and now its Mill Road branch is even better, after a sparkling makeover.
Better lighting, new paintwork and carpeting and a redecorated meeting room have all made it a nicer place to do business for customers and staff alike. The Society also put in a ramp to give easy access to wheelchair users and those with pushchairs.
To celebrate, the staff had a party for their customers.
"The Mill Road location is one of our most popular," said David Radcliffe, Branch Supervisor. "It's right at the heart of what is probably Cambridge's most cosmopolitan street. Here you can buy everything from Chinese and Korean foods to retro clothing and electric bicycles.
"It has a really vibrant, community feel and here at the Cambridge we're very keen to play our part in the continued success of the area.
“We’ve been here for thirty five years and it still feels like a village branch. Although we sell all the Society’s products, mortgages, savings, travel insurance, home insurance etc, with only three of us working here everyone knows us – and each other – and there’s a strong sense of belonging.
“Although I’ve only been here since August I’m keen to get deeper into community life. We’re already involved with the Mill Road Winter Fair and the Romsey Garden Show and I want to do more.”
The Cambridge prides itself on its long-term relationships and invited Christine Prime, one of its longest serving customers, to join the re-launch celebrations. Christine has been an account holder with the Society for more than 35 years.
The branch presented her with a bouquet of flowers and she also had a taste of the magnificent cake that was specially commissioned for the occasion.

The staff offered customers tea and coffee and close-up magician Rob Cox kept everyone entertained with a range of bamboozling tricks.
"The makeover came about as a result of listening to customers," said Society Chief Executive Stephen Mitcham, who was also on hand to help with the formal launch. "We're very proud of our branch network and want to be as accessible as possible to our customers; in every sense of the word.”
