Oxjam cheque

Duncan Bain, Finance Director at The Cambridge hands sponsorship cheque to the Oxjam team

The Cambridge Building Society was the headline sponsor at the first ever Oxjam Cambridge Takeover.

Eleven representatives of The Cambridge took to the streets on Saturday 22nd October to help raise additional funds for Oxfam with local Samba band, Arco Iris – raising a total of £381.00.

Over 100 local performers lined up for this multi-venue festival sponsored in aid of Oxfam.

Oxjam is Oxfam's month-long music festival. It runs all through October with hundreds of events around the UK, all organised by volunteers who know and love their local music scene, all raising money to save lives around the world.  An Oxjam Takeover is a multi-venue one-dayer, one wristband event that showcases local talent playing in exciting local venues. The events are organized by teams of Oxjam volunteers who spend over six months putting them together.  All proceeds go to Oxfam's vital work. It is taking place during October in over 35 cities in the UK and it will be taking over Cambridge too fundraising to help save millions of lives around the world. Since the first festival in 2006, Oxjam has raised more than £1.5 million in total for Oxfam’s work, which is enough to buy 13,000 emergency shelters; 60,000 goats or 900 classrooms.
