The Cambridge Go MAD To Help Wallace Cancer Care

MAD GROUP

MAD TEAM

Employees from The Cambridge Building Society had a spring in their step as they held their latest ‘Make a Difference’ (MAD) event.

On Saturday 2nd April 2011, 15 employees of The Cambridge dedicated four hours of their free time to do some post winter DIY at the Wallace Cancer Care Complementary Care Centre.

Armed with a selection of gardening tools, the team got to work on re-vamping the garden areas at the centre, which are significant to the relaxation and comfort of the patients, carers and families.

The care centre based on Red Cross Lane, Cambridge is close to the Addenbrookes hospital and provides a relaxed environment for patients to use in between appointments. Carers and family members are also encouraged to use the facilities and therapies at the centre, with the aim to give them the support that they need.

The Cambridge Building Society is committed to supporting the local community and the MAD Committee facilitates activities that can truly make a difference in and around Cambridgeshire.

Louise Bateman, Head of People at The Cambridge said: “This is just one example of our commitment to the local community. Wallace Cancer Care is an extraordinary place, dedicated to helping make cancer treatment a more relaxing process. It was wonderful to see employees from The Cambridge working together as a team and really transforming the garden areas.”

Aisha Hunt, Fundraising Manager at Wallace Cancer Care, said “We want to thank everyone involved for giving their time to revamp the gardens at 7 Red Cross Lane; it was a wonderful team effort and has made a real difference.  The house and gardens at 7 Red Cross Lane are an oasis for cancer patients and their families and we are enormously grateful to The Cambridge employees for giving their free time to help us in creating a beautiful relaxing space for those dealing with the trauma of a cancer diagnosis and its treatment.  Thank you very much.”

The MAD committee aim to host at least four events throughout the year and can provide a whole host of skills, from decorating to gardening. If you would like to request some help, please contact The Cambridge Building Society on 0845 6013341
