Festive Fundraising Helps Arthur Rank Hospice Charity

Employees at The Cambridge Building Society have been doing lots of festive fundraising activities for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.

Starting with the Love Cambridge Big Switch On back in November, The Cambridge has organised several initiatives to help raise as much money as possible for the local charity.

32 members of staff spent the day singing some classic Christmas carols in the city centre on Sunday 20th November which raised £322.55.

Kath Austin, Community Fundraiser at Arthur Rank said “The team at The Cambridge did an excellent job collecting money and carolling to members of the public. We really appreciate the hard work that the team at The Cambridge put in to raise this money.”

A Christmas card has been printed and employees at The Cambridge have donated money to write a message to the patients at Arthur Rank. This has raised £38.00 and the card will be sent to Arthur Rank for them to put on display.

On Friday 16th December, nine members of Head Office staff, one from each department battled it out to eat four mince pies in the quickest possible time. Daniel Baseley won the competition, managing to eat all four in an impressive 1 minute 13 seconds. The slowest contestant, Tim Weedon, received a wooden spoon, only managing to eat one mince pie in that time.  The competition raised £76.30 for Arthur Rank.

Daniel, Mortgage Applications Assistant at The Cambridge says: “I am delighted to have won the competition and although I am feeling very full, it was worth it to help raise money for such a worthwhile charity.”

Branch staff also had the opportunity to take part in a ‘Guess the Santa’ quiz. Each member of staff had to identify seven members of staff that had been disguised as Santa.

The Grafton Centre and St Andrew’s Street branches have been helping to raise money with a ‘pay and pull’ cracker draw. Both branches have 50 Christmas crackers on display which customers can pay a donation to pull. Four of the 50 crackers hold a hidden prize voucher worth £5, £10, £15 or £20.

The two branches also have a lovely Christmas hamper up for grabs. Again, a donation can be made by customers to put their details into a prize draw. The winner will be drawn on Friday 23rd December, 2011.

Suzanne Hazell, PR Officer at The Cambridge says: “I am overwhelmed with the support that the employees have given to help raise money for Arthur Rank. The staff helped come up with the initiatives and they have gone above and beyond to raise as much money as possible.

“Not only have they been fundraising, 13 employees also supported Arthur Rank on the 11th November by picking up their paint brushes and renovating the benches at Arthur Rank House.”
