Sawston Fun Run and Walk announces its beneficiaries for 2008

08.01.2008

Sawston District Rotary Club has announced the beneficiaries for the 2008 Sawston Fun Run and Walk. The event, which is sponsored by Cambridge Building Society, will take place on Sunday 27th April and hopes to attract over 900 entrants. The event aims to add substantial funds to the £283,000 that has already been raised for local charities since 1986; thereby ensuring it maintains its place as one of the largest community charity events in the region.

This year there will be 9 local beneficiaries:

The four major beneficiaries will be:
  • Cambridge Cancer Help Unit - to help fund the new counselling and support centre being built at Scotsdales, in Great Shelford;
  • Addenbrookes Prostate Cancer Unit - to help purchase new key equipment;
  • MAGPAS - to help buy specialist medical equipment for roadside accidents;
  • Teenage Cancer Trust - to help fund the new 12-bed teenage cancer unit to be built at Addenbrookes Hospital - adding to the £5,000 already donated from the 2005 event.

The other beneficiaries will be:

  • 1st Sawston Scouts - to purchase camping equipment for the scouts, cubs and beavers;
