A special charity presentation took place at Cambridge Building Society’s Newmarket branch today, following the success of its Christmas fundraiser.
Two local charities, ‘Dial A Ride’ and ‘The Ellesmere Opportunity Group’ were each presented with a cheque for £100, thanks to nominations from Newmarket Journal readers and Cambridge Building Society customers. These nominations were made as a result of a local appeal, to find an extra special cause to support at the branch’s annual Christmas event.
The funds were raised by a Santa’s Grotto and Christmas Raffle, which took place in the branch, forming part of Newmarket’s Late Night Shopping evening in December. A total of fifteen members of staff supported the event, many capturing the festive spirit by donning Christmas fancy dress.
Staff from the Society's Newmarket branch present representatives from both charities with their cheques.
Of the event, Branch Assistant Christine Harmer said:
“Our Christmas fundraiser was particularly successful this year, and enjoyed by everyone who took part. We are pleased to have found two very worthwhile organisations to support, and we hope they will really benefit from our funds. We are grateful to all of the staff who helped organise it and also to members of the Newmarket community for nominating these charities.”
