The Histon branch of the Cambridge Building Society has helped nine year old Isla Downes raise funds for charity this Christmas by raffling a hamper.
Isla’s sister has terminal cancer and Isla wanted to do something to help others who faced the same terrible situation. She decided to raise money for CLIC Sargent, the charity that has been aiding her sister through this very difficult time.
CLIC Sargent helps children and their families cope with the trauma of cancer. The charity also ensures that young people with cancer and their families can speak out about their needs and get involved in how they are met.
Isla has raised £1,200 through her hard work and when the Cambridge Building Society heard about all her efforts, they were only too keen to help.

Histon Branch Manager, Michael Stead, and members of the Histon Team, present Isla and Tess Downes with their cheque.
Histon Branch Manager, Michael Stead, comments, “It’s extremely hard to watch a close relative suffer, particularly at this time of year, but we’ve been hugely impressed by Isla’s determination in raising all this money and we’re delighted to be involved.
“The hamper raffle went extremely well and, together with a donation from the Society, we’ve been able to donate £700 to Isla’s campaign.
“We’re very pleased to say that Isla agreed to come and make the draw for us just before Christmas. She’s done her very best to make sure that something good can come out of her sister’s situation and we’re full of admiration for what she’s achieved.”
