Staff at the Cambridge Building Society have donated £2,800 to the Dogs for the Disabled charity as part of their annual ‘Busy Bees Week’ fundraising campaign.

Organised by a committee of staff volunteers, the ‘Busy Bees Week’ is the Society’s annual charity event where colleagues are encouraged to take part or organise various fundraising activities throughout the last week of September. In total, £8,400 has been raised, which is being split and presented to the Society’s three chosen charities – Dogs for the Disabled, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice and The Sunshine Club.

The Dogs for the Disabled charity was set up to create life changing partnerships by training assistance dogs to help disabled people lead a fuller, more independent life. Every assistance dog trained by the charity offers practical help to the people they support and the money raised by the Cambridge Building Society will go direct to disabled people living in the Cambridgeshire area.

Stephen Mitcham, the Society’s Chief Executive, comments, “We are delighted to be supporting the Dogs for the Disabled charity. It’s a wonderful charity which works with physically disabled adults to help open doors to independence and helps to give a new sense of confidence and freedom, which is taken for granted and often, long forgotten.

“I’d like to extend my thanks to all members of staff and everyone else who supported us and helped raise much needed funds for such a worthwhile cause.”

Charity volunteer, Andy Lee, who accepted the cheque, added, “On behalf of Dogs for the Disabled I’d like to thank everyone at the Cambridge Building Society for their support. Its through generous fundraising events like this that the charity can, and will continue, to make a major contribution in helping physically disabled people live an independent life through the provision of highly trained assistance dogs.”
