Chief Executive

Stephen Mitcham, has been Chief Executive since 2007. Stephen has led the organisation through an unprecedented period of economic change affecting our key business areas. Stephen has been the key driver of the Society’s strategy, over the last few years, to modernise and improve the operations of the Society. This drive and focus on a sustainable business has been rewarded by the strong results produced in 2010 and the positive outlook for the Society as a whole. Stephen is committed to the Cambridge Building Society as a regional, mutual building society. Stephen is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and is a member of the Assets & Liabilities, and Nominations, Committees.

Finance and Risk Director

Duncan Bain, joined the Society as an Executive Director in 2009. Duncan is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and brings a wealth of financial experience gained from working in financial services for over 25 years. Duncan is a member of the Assets & Liabilities Committee.

Commercial Director

Andy Lucas, joined the Society as Head of Cambridge Direct in August 2010 to lead the development of direct distribution and product strategy.  Andy is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and brings a wealth of experience in marketing, sales and business development and e-Commerce.  The majority of his career has been in consumer and business to business financial services across insurance, banking and investments, but he also brings experience of working within public and not for profit organisations. Andy was appointed as the Society’s Commercial Director in October 2011.

Ian O'Reilly
Chairman

Ian O’Reilly, was appointed to the Board as a Non- Executive Director in 2001 and has been Chairman of the Board since 2006. Ian has previously held a number of Board roles and has significant experience of information systems and the retail industry. Ian’s broad experience has enabled him to develop an effective Board which operates in an environment of constructive challenge to deliver ongoing improvement for the benefit of the Society’s members.

Vice-Chairman

Jonathan Spence, joined the Society as a Non-Executive Director in 2006. Senior Bursar for Queens’ College, Jonathan has over 20 years’ banking experience with senior positions in City investment banks. Jonathan chairs the Mortgage Credit Committee and is a member of the Assets & Liabilities Committee.

Gerald Coteman
Non-Executive Director

Gerald Coteman, joined the Society in 2005. Founder of an established, Cambridge-based management consultancy, Gerald brings expertise in business planning, performance management, marketing and human resources, as well as previous Board level experience. Gerald chairs the Remuneration Committee and is a member of the Audit, Risk & Compliance Committee.

Non-Executive Director

John Granger, joined the Society’s Board as a Non-Executive Director in 2010. John is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and has more than 35 years’ experience within the property sector including commercial and residential housing. John has worked in local Cambridge property organisations since 1988, working at Equity Partner level for 13 years and for a further seven years with responsibility for leading a multi-disciplinary property consultancy advising clients on property matters including commercial, planning and development, residential, rural and building surveying. John is a member of the Mortgage Credit and Remuneration Committees.

Jane Pilcher
Non-Executive Director

Jane Pilcher, joined the Society as a Non-Executive Director in 2006. The Group Treasurer of a major, local plc, a member of the Association of Corporate Treasurers and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Jane brings a wealth of experience to the Society’s Board. Jane chairs the Assets & Liabilities Committee and is a member of the Remuneration Committee.

Matthew Donaldson
Non-Executive Director

Matthew Donaldson, was appointed to the Board as a Non-Executive Director in 2008. A company Director for a large insurance intermediary, Matthew brings extensive sales and marketing experience. Matthew is a member of the Assets & Liabilities, Audit, Risk & Compliance and Mortgage Credit Committees.

Stuart Cruickshank
Non-Executive Director

Stuart Cruickshank, was appointed to the Society’s Board as a Non-Executive Director in 2010. Stuart is a Fellow of CIMA, holds a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance and has extensive senior PLC and Government experience. Stuart offers a broad commercial background in customer-facing organisations and a thorough understanding of governance and risk management needs from a variety of different organisational sectors. Stuart is a member of the Audit, Risk & Compliance Committee.

Roy Badcock
Head of Corporate Affairs and Secretary

Roy Badcock, joined the Society in 1983 and has been part of the Executive Team since 2003. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and brings a wealth of operational and technical experience covering a wide range of business areas. He has been responsible for the management of internal audit, customers services, information system and facilities management. In his current role he is responsible for the development of Society strategy and undertakes the role of Society Secretary.

Louise Bateman
Head of People

Louise Bateman, joined the Society as Head of People in April 2007.  She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and has more than 20 years experience within this profession having worked across a number of different industry sectors at board and senior levels.  Louise has led on people change at the Society and has developed performance management and learning and development initiatives to underpin the Society's strategy for improvement.

Jon Foster
Head of Operations

Jon Foster, joined the Executive Team of the Society in 2004 leading the service and support teams and managing the implementation of significant change across the organisation.  He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and has over 20 years’ experience at a senior level in financial services covering building societies, insurance and regulation. He is a member of the Mortgage Credit Committee.
